I’m going to go off topic a little bit today. Thought I usually talk about ways a criminal attorney can help you and give you information that is important with dealing with the cops, today I want to talk about the customer experience, and in particular office space.
If you look on Google for criminal attorney, you’ll often find that most of the law offices center around downtown. This is probably because of a couple of reasons. First, the courthouse is usually downtown (thought that is not entirely true in Seattle, where I am). Second, there is the idea that potential clients and current clients like the idea of coming downtown to visit a lawyer – kind of makes the experience what they think it should be. And finally, it makes the criminal lawyer feel important because he gets to go to his high rise office every day and look out over all there is to see.
But is this really the best set up? There are some draw backs to having a down town office. First, parking is horrendous or expensive, or both. Second, nobody usually lives downtown, which means it is at least slightly inconvenient to get to for everyone (including the criminal defense attorney). And finally, the price is usually higher downtown than it might otherwise be.
So, my question to you is, do you think a Seattle criminal attorney should locate his office downtown, or do you think it could be anywhere in the city (so long as it was relatively easy to access from all directions)? I personally don’t think downtown is necessary, but when I was starting a law firm I thought it made the most sense (and I found a pretty good situation).
Now that I’m leaving my current space, my options are completely open, and I want to explore them all.
